Cruising is Back: Here’s 16 Things to Pack

Following eighteen months of shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, cruise ships are back in operation and avid cruisers are jumping back onboard!
This past month Barefoot Facilitation’s Gerard Murphy, and his wife Susan, took to the seas out of Miami, Florida onboard the Norwegian Joy. And as they packed their bags they made a list of their cruise essentials.

Here are the Murphys’ top 16 ‘must have’ items to pack for a 2022 cruise:
  1. Hard copies of your COVID-19 proof of vaccination and proof of a negative test result (as per the cruise line’s requirements!)

  2. Your official government ID (driver’s license) or passport

  3. Chargers for all of your mobile devices

  4. Two bull dog clips per cruiser to keep your towel secure to your deck chair – so it doesn’t blow away!

  5. A supply of hand wipes and disinfectant wipes to touch up surfaces

  6. A supply of medical and KN95 masks that are well fitted for each cruiser (masks may not be required onboard, however, some ports require masks to be worn by visitors)

  7. Medications, including options for nausea, sea sickness and sun burn

  8. Sun protection, including a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, long sleeve shirt and sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30

  9. A small flashlight (if your mobile device doesn’t have one!) to help you see in your stateroom at night – when the lights go out it’s pitch black!

  10. Magnetic clips to stick on your stateroom wall – the perfect spot to hang wet bathing suits, towels, hats, etc.

  11. A large beach bag to accommodate everything you need to pack for a port visit, a day on the lido deck or the beach

  12. Large ziplock bags, to carry wet bathing suits

  13. A few, heavy bull dog clips or weights to clip along the bottom of the shower curtain – to prevent it from flapping around and sticking to your legs!

  14. A few clothes pins to use with the retractable clothes line in the shower

  15. A supply of $1.00 bills in USD for tipping

  16. Download of the cruise line’s app to your mobile device, to help you manage all the details of your cruise vacation
